The Indiana Hoosiers and the Minnesota Golden Gophers face off on Saturday in a Big Ten college basketball match up of top 10 ranked teams. The Hoosiers are -8 point favorites over the Golden Gophers with an over/under point total set at 143.5
The Indiana Hoosiers have lost just once this season and they are ranked fifth in the country headed into this game. IU has played the 56th ranked schedule in the nation going a perfect 10-0 at home and have started their Big 10 schedule off with two road wins. As a team Indiana is averaging 87 points, 17.3 assists, and they are shooting 51.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 59.1 points, 9.5 assists, and their opponents are shooting 35.8 percent. Cody Zeller is averaging 16.5 points and 7.9 rebounds, Victor Oladipo is averaging 13.3 points and 5.9 rebounds, Christian Watford is averaging 12.8 points and 6.5 rebounds, and Will Sheehy is averaging 12.1 points. Indiana is deep and talented and they are going to need all of it in the Big Ten this season.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers continue to fly under the radar but at the same time they keep piling up wins and climbing the rankings. Minnesota’s lone loss this year came to top ranked Duke and Tubby Smith’s Gophers haven’t taken the easy road as they have played the seventh ranked schedule in the country. As a team Minnesota is averaging 76 points, 16.6 assists, and they are shooting 47.3 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 59.7 points, 11.4 assists, and their opponents are shooting 37.9 percent. Andre Hollins is averaging 13.7 points, Rodney Williams is averaging 12.6 points and 5.9 rebounds, Joe Coleman is averaging 10.9 points, and Austin Hollins is averaging 10.8 points. Minnesota is already 3-0 in the Big Ten with two of the wins coming against ranked teams, Michigan State and Illinois.
Indiana is 19-7 against the spread in their last 26 home games, 5-2 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 games overall. Minnesota is 7-0 against the spread against the Big Ten, 13-3 against the spread in their last 16 road games, and 6-2 against the spread following a win. The underdog has covered the spread in the last four meetings of these two.
This is a big one for Minnesota but back to back road games are a tough task, especially against ranked teams. Look for Indiana to struggle but get the win but the Gophers get the cover.
