Auburn Tigers vs. LSU Tigers

The Auburn Tigers and the LSU Tigers open their SEC college basketball schedules as they face off on Wednesday. LSU is -1.5 point favorites over Auburn.
The Auburn Tigers are coming off of a big win a week ago against Florida State but overall this season has been more of a struggle. Auburn has played the 178th ranked schedule but they have gone 5-3 at home. As a team Auburn is averaging 68.9 points, 13.7 assists, and they are shooting 42 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.8 points, 11.5 assists, and their opponents are shooting 41.2 percent. Frankie Sullivan is averaging 17.8 points and 4.1 rebounds, Rob Chubb is averaging 9.4 points and 7.4 rebounds, and Allen Payne is averaging 7.9 points and 5.2 rebounds. Auburn has played competitively but that hasn’t always meant wins.
The LSU Tigers have won three of their last four games and look like a much better team than we saw from them last season. LSU has played just the 270th ranked schedule going 1-2 on the road but both of their losses have come to teams with a RPI better than 50. As a team LSU is averaging 77.2 points, 16.2 assists, and they are shooting 45.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.6 points, 9.6 assists, and they are shooting 39.3 percent from the floor. Shavon Coleman is averaging 14.1 points and 8.6 rebounds, Johnny O’ Bryant III is averaging 12 points and 7.6 rebounds, Andre Stringer in averaging 11.7 points, and Anthony Hickey is averaging 10.7 points. We will find out a lot more about LSU as their schedule gets increasingly more difficult.
Auburn is 1-4 against the spread following a win, 13-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 42-18-2 against the spread against the SEC. LSU is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven Wednesday games and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven trips to Auburn. The road team has covered in seven of the last 10 meetings of these two.
Auburn has steadily improving and while I don’t love this game it’s a lean to Auburn.

Pick
