Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Jets
The Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets face off on Sunday in Jacksonville in a battle of struggling NFL teams. The Jets are -2.5 point favorites over the Jaguars with an over/under total set at 39.
Not much was expected of the Jacksonville Jaguars this season and they haven’t really over delivered as they have competitive in spots but not earning much in the way of wins. Chad Henne has been the starter at QB due to the injury to Blaine Gabbert and he has completed 52.2 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and three interceptions while being sacked 16 times. The Jaguars have problems in the backfield as Maurice Jones-Drew has been out since week seven and is questionable here but Rashad Jennings is more than likely out after being injured last week at Buffalo. Justin Blackmon has 39 catches, Marcedes Lewis has 37 catches, and Laurent Robinson has 24 catches. Defensively Jacksonville is allowing 28.5 points per game, 144 rushing yards, and 260.9 passing yards with 10 interceptions and 13 sacks. Russell Allen has 102 tackles, Paul Posluszny has 101 tackles, and Dawan Landry has 82 tackles. The Jaguars appear to be headed to the top of the draft order in the next NFL Draft.
The New York Jets have had a disappointing year from start to finish and the turmoil doesn’t look like it will end anytime soon. Mark Sanchez has been much maligned at QB this season completing just 55 percent of his passes with more interceptions than touchdowns and last week Greg McElroy come in and though he threw just seven passes one was completed for the game winning touchdown. Shonn Greene is averaging 3.8 yards per carry with five touchdowns and Bilal Powell is averaging 4.0 yards per carry with three touchdowns. Jeremy Kerley has 48 catches with two touchdowns, Dustin Keller has 28 catches and two touchdowns, and Chaz Schilens has 24 catches and two touchdowns as the entire Jets offense has suffered. The Jets defense allows 24.7 points, 137.7 rushing yards, and 198.3 passing yards with nine interceptions and 19 sacks. David Harris has 91 tackles, LaRon Landry has 79 tackles, and Yeremiah Bell has 70 tackles but the Jets defense has had little chance with no help from the offense. It will be interesting to see how the offseason shakes out for the Jets this year.
Jacksonville is 5-2 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread, 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games, and 4-1 against the spread following a game which they allowed more than 30 points. New York is 1-4 against the spread following a win, 1-4 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 4-1 against the spread following a game which they allowed less than 90 yards rushing. Jacksonville has covered in six of the last seven meetings of these two.
It’s tough to lay points with the Jets on the road so I will take the points with the home team here.
