Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots
The Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots face off in Miami in a NFL AFC East showdown. The Patriots are -7.5 point favorites over the Dolphins with an over/under point total set at 51.
The Miami Dolphins are an improved team and are in second place in the AFC East but even so they have some work to do and making the playoffs is still a longshot. The Dolphins have been competitive buy keeping games close and giving them a chance to win though it has also led to some heartbreaking losses. Ryan Tannehill has completed 59 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and 12 interceptions while being sacked 20 times and it still isn’t decided whether the rookie will be the answer. Reggie Bush has played with something to prove averaging 4.4 yards per carry with five touchdowns and he has 24 catches out of the backfield and Daniel Thomas is averaging 3.7 yards per carry with four touchdowns. Brian Hartline and Davone Bess each have 555 catches and Anthony Fasano has 27 catches and three touchdowns. The Dolphins defense is allowing 20.5 points per game, 96.7 rushing yards, and 261.7 passing yards with eight interceptions and 29 sacks. Karlos Dansby has 83 tackles, Kevin Burnett has 69 tackles, and Cameron Wake has 9.5 sacks. This is a rivalry game for the Dolphins and expect a full house for a fan base which doesn’t always show up in force.
The New England Patriots are in first place in the AFC East and look to be once again headed to the playoffs. The Patriots have won five games in a row heading into this one with the majority of those games not being close. Tom Brady has completed 65.1 percent of his passes with 24 touchdowns and three interceptions while being sacked 15 times. Stevan Ridley is averaging 4.6 yards per carry with eight touchdowns and Danny Woodhead is averaging 3.7 yards per carry and he has 24 catches with two touchdowns. Wes Welker has 80 catches and three touchdowns, Brandon Lloyd has 49 catches and three touchdowns, and Julian Edelman has 20 catches and three touchdowns as Rob Gronkowski is still out with a broken arm. Defensively the Patriots allow 22.2 points, 100.8 rushing yards, and 289.4 passing yards with 14 interceptions and 23 sacks. Jerod Mayo has 112 tackles, Brandon Spikes has 81 tackles, and Devin McCourty has 62 tackles. Don’t look for the Patriots to look past the Dolphins as they have done so in the past and paid for it.
Miami is 10-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 5-2 against the spread against the AFC East, and 23-52-1 against the spread in their last 76 home games. New England is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games against the AFC, 37-17-2 against the spread in their last 56 road games, and 8-3-1 against the spread in their last 12 road games against a team with a losing home record. The road team has covered in eight of the last 10 meetings of these two.
Miami may have a losing record but almost all of their games have been close, within a field goal, and look for this one to be as well so getting better than a touchdown seems to be a solid play.
