Atlanta Falcons vs. Arizona Cardinals
The Atlanta Falcons and the Arizona Cardinals meet on Sunday in the Georgia Dome in a NFC NFL battle. The Falcons are -9.5 point favorites over the Cardinals with an over/under point total set at 45.5.
The Atlanta Falcons are coming off of their first loss of the season but despite the loss they still have a very comfortable lead in the NFC South. Matt Ryan has completed 68.4 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions while being sacked 19 times. Michael Turner is averaging 3.8 yards per carry with four touchdowns and 10 receptions with another touchdown and Jacquizz Rodgers is averaging 3.7 yards per carry and he has 28 catches with a touchdown. Tony Gonzalez is the Falcons leading receiver with 61 catches and six touchdowns, Roddy White has 54 catches and four touchdowns, and Julio Jones has 44 catches and five touchdowns. The Atlanta defense allows 19.3 points, 129.8 yards rushing, and 235.8 yards passing with 11 interceptions and 21 sacks. Stephen Nicholas has 56 tackles, John Abraham has seven sacks, and Thomas DeCoud has four interceptions. The Falcons look like a lock to make the playoffs but they are focused on having the best record in the NFC and home field advantage.
The Arizona Cardinals started the season off strong but since then they have lost five straight and are simply having problems putting points on the board. Jon Skelton has completed 55.8 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and five interceptions with 14 sacks and has been ineffective as the Cardinals await the return of Kevin Kolb who had the Cards offense moving. The Arizona running game has been non-existent with LaRod Stephens-Howling averaging 2.7 yards per carry with three touchdowns and Ryan Williams averaging 2.8 yards per carry. Larry Fitzgerald has 51 catches and four touchdowns, Andre Roberts has 40 catches and five touchdowns, and Rob Housler has 24 catches. Defensively Arizona allows 19.2 points per game, 126.1 rushing yards, and 194.6 passing yards with nine interceptions and 27 sacks. Daryl Washington has 75 tackles and eight sacks, Paris Lenon has 57 tackles, and Patrick Peterson has three interceptions. Arizona needs to turn things around in a hurry before it starts to get ugly.
Atlanta is 12-4-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 21-6 against the spread following a loss, and 34-16-1 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover. Arizona is 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five road games, 0-5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall, and 0-3-1 against the spread against the NFC. The favorite has covered the spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
Atlanta is the better team and while the double digit spread makes this game a less appealing play the Cardinals offense hasn’t shown any sign that they can even keep this close.
