Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Washington Redskins
The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Washington Redskins meet on Sunday in Pittsburgh in an AFC vs. NFL match up. The Steelers are -5 point favorites over the Redskins with an over/under point total set at 47.5.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are back to .500 on the year after a comeback win on Sunday in Cincinnati that they hope gets the positive momentum going. Ben Roethlisberger has completed 66 percent of his passes for 11 touchdowns and three interceptions and he has been sacked 13 times but he has been knocked down often as well. Jonathan Dwyer has picked it up in the running game averaging 4.7 yards per carry as Rashard Mendenhall isn’t right just yet. Antonio Brown leads the Steelers with 36 receptions, Heath Miller has 31 catches and five touchdowns, and Mike Wallace has 29 catches and four touchdowns. The Steelers defense allows 22 points per game, 92.5 rushing yards, and 184.8 passing yards with three interceptions and 11 sacks. The defense has been slowed by the absence of Troy Polamalu but Larry Foote has 44 tackles, Lawrence Timmons has 38 tackles, and Ryan Clark has 37 tackles. The Steelers haven’t looked healthy all year but if they can stay in contention until they are healthy they should be poised to make a run.
The Washington Redskins are one of the more improved teams in the NFL but it isn’t clear if they are a team that needs another year of building or if they can squeak in as a playoff team. Robert Griffin III is looking like anything but a rookie completing 70.4 percent of his passes for seven touchdowns and three interceptions while being sacked 15 times and he has also rushed for 468 yards and six touchdowns. Alfred Morris has taken over in the backfield rushing for 4.8 yards per carry and five touchdowns while Evan Royster has been used to catch passes out of the backfield. Fred Davis leads the Redskins receivers with 24 receptions, Leonard Hankerson has 22 catches, and Santana Moss has 19 catches and four touchdowns. The Washington defense is allowing 28.6 points per game, 85.3 rushing yards, and 328.4 passing yards with 10 interceptions and 13 sacks. London Fletcher has 60 tackles, Perry Riley has 57 tackles, and Madieu Williams has 49 tackles. The Redskins let a big one get away from them last week against the Giants and a loss this week would put them two games under .500.
Pittsburgh is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games overall, 1-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 0-5 against the spread following a game where they covered the spread. Washington is 6-2 against the spread following a loss, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven road games, and 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 games on grass.
The number on this one is on the rise but I see it as moving in the wrong direction as getting anything more than a field goal the Redskins are the choice in what should be a close game that the Skins may have a chance to steal.
