Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs. TCU Horned Frogs

The Oklahoma State Cowboys and the TCU Horned Frogs meet on Saturday in Stillwater in a Big 12 college football battle.  The Cowboys are -8.5 point favorites over the Horned Frogs with an over/under point total set at 63.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys aren’t the team they were a year ago but for a team who lost two first round NFL Draft picks they have been better than could have been expected. J.W. Walsh has completed 66.2 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and three touchdowns while rushing for three touchdowns but he injured his knee last week and is gone for the year and as of now OSU is undecided on their starting QB for this one. Joseph Randle is averaging 6.0 yards per carry with eight touchdowns and Jeremy Smith is averaging 5.8 yards per carry with four touchdowns as Okie State is stacked in the backfield. Josh Stewart leads OSU receivers with 42 catches and three touchdowns, Tracy Moore has 20 catches and four touchdowns, and Charlie Moore has 19 catches and two touchdowns. Defensively Oklahoma State allows 24.7 points per game, 128.8 rushing yards, and 365.8 passing yards with four interceptions and 12 sacks. Daytawion Lowe has 32 tackles, a sack, and an interception and Alex Elkins and Shamiel Gary each have 29 tackles. Oklahoma State is still in the mode of needing to outscore their opponents offenses each week but the formula still appears to be working.

The TCU Horned Frogs have lost two of their last three games which is an unfamiliar position for Gary Patterson’s team. QB Trevone Boykin has completed 64.5 percent of his passes for 10 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for two touchdowns. B.J. Catalon is averaging 4.9 yards per carry and Matthew Tucker is averaging 4.2 yards per carry with two touchdowns. Josh Boyce leads TCU with 37 catches and five touchdowns, Brandon Carter has 28 catches and four touchdowns, and Skye Dawson has 24 catches and a touchdown. Defensively TCU is allowing 20.4 points per game, 92 rushing yards, and 221.4 passing yards with 14 interceptions and 19 sacks. Joel Hasley has 54 tackles, Kenny Cain has 34 tackles, and Devonte Fields has eight sacks. TCU is finding life in the Big 12 is a little tougher than what they are accustomed to but they appear to have enough to compete.

Oklahoma State is 20-9 against the spread in their last 29 games overall, 12-5 against the spread in their last 17 Big 12 games, and 1-4 against the spread following a win. TCU is 8-0 against the spread following a loss, 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games against a team with a winning home record, and 25-9 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread.

With the starting QB situation up in the air for OSU it makes it a tough game to handicap but I still see enough points being put up to go over the total.
