Green Bay Packers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Green Bay Packers and the Jacksonville Jaguars face off on Sunday at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The Packers are -14.5 point favorites over the Jaguars with an over/under point total set at 45.5.
The Green Bay Packers have put together back to back wins to get back to the right side of .500 but they are still in third place in the NFC North which is shaping up as one of the toughest conferences in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers has completed 69.8 percent of his passes with 19 touchdowns and four interceptions while being sacked 26 times. The Packers have had big problems in the backfield and currently it is Alex Green as the primary ball carrier averaging just 3.1 yards per carry without finding the endzone. Jordy Nelson is questionable for this one but he leads the Packers receivers with 40 catches and five touchdowns, Randall Cobb has 37 catches and three touchdowns, and James Jones has27 catches and seven touchdowns. The Green Bay defense allows 22.1 points per game, 109.9 rushing yards, and 232.4 passing yards with nine interceptions and 24 sacks. A.J. Hawk has 56 tackles, Clay Mathews has nine sacks, and Casey Heyward has four interceptions. Last year at this point the Packers were unbeaten and failed to make the NFC Championship Game, this year they hope to get hot the last few weeks when they should be a lot healthier than they are now.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were already having a tough season but they enter this game after a wave of big injuries. Blaine Gabbert is out for this one and he is replaced by Chad Henne who has completed 50 percent of his passes this year but he has plenty of experience as a starter in the NFL. Maurice Jones-Drew is also out for this one and Rashad Jennings is a veteran who getting carries is nothing new to. The Jags passing game has been suffering anyways as Marcedes Lewis has 17 catches and two touchdowns, Justin Blackmon has 14 catches, and Laurent Robinson has just nine catches. Defensively Jacksonville allows 27.3 points per game, 147.3 rushing yards, and 264.5 passing yards with four interceptions and just five sacks. Paul Posluszny and Russell Allen each have 51 tackles and Dawan Landry has 38 but the Jaguars simply need to get better on both sides of the ball. Jacksonville will need to get it together and find answers if they want to stay in this one.
Green Bay is 7-2 against the spread in their last nine home games against a team with a losing road record, 2-6 against the spread following a game which they covered the spread, and 1-4 against the spread following a win. Jacksonville is 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games, 5-2 against the spread following a loss, and 7-18-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
This is simply way too many points to pass up as the Packers are playing better but this is still a defense that gave up 20 points to a Rams team that was missing their top pass catching option and who turned down points going for it on fourth down deep in Green Bay territory.
