Florida Gators vs. South Carolina Gamecocks
The Florida Gators and the South Carolina Gamecocks meet in a huge game in the SEC East which could decide who goes to the SEC Championship games. The Gators are -3.5 point favorites over the Gamecocks.
While the Florida Gators have had a solid program for many years, few could have expected them to be putting together a season like they are having as they are off to a 6-0 start including 5-0 in the SEC. QB Jeff Driskel has been outstanding completing 66.7 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and one interception but also rushing for 326 yards and four touchdowns. Mike Gillislee has added power to the running game averaging 5.1 yards per carry with seven touchdowns. Jeff Reed has 21 catches and a touchdown, Quintin Dunbar has 13 catches and a touchdown, and Frankie Hammond has 11 catches and two touchdowns. Defensively UF has been outstanding allowing 12.3 points per game, 107.5 rushing yards, and 189.7 passing yards with seven interceptions and 12 sacks. Josh Evans leads the Gators with 37 tackles and two sacks, Matt Elam has 33 tackles, a sack, and an interception, and Jon Bostic has 33 tackles and three sacks. Florida has gotten it done with defense and the running game, a formula which has been a winner across football for a long as there has been a game.
The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season as they fought the good fight against LSU but came up two points short. Connor Shaw has completed 69.4 percent of his passes for nine touchdowns and four interceptions and he has run for 280 yards and a score. Marcus Lattimore is averaging 4.5 yards per carry with 10 touchdowns and he has caught 22 passes out of the backfield. Ace Sanders has 17 catches and four touchdowns, Bruce Ellington has 17 catches and two touchdowns, and Damiere Byrd has 12 catches and two touchdowns. Defensively South Carolina is rock solid allowing 12.3 points per game, 108.7 rushing yards, and 187.6 passing yards with nine interceptions and 26 sacks. Shaq Wilson has 44 tackles, a sack, and two interceptions, Quin Smith has 33 tackles, and Jadeveon Clowney has 6.5 sacks. South Carolina has a championship style defense and a strong running game but sacrifice in the passing game with Shaw.
Florida is 5-0 against the spread in the last five SEC games, 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight home games, and 2-6 against the spread against a team with a winning record. South Carolina is 7-0 against the spread in their last seven game against a team with a winning record, 7-1 against the spread following a loss, and 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 road games. The home team has covered in seven of the last 10 meetings of these two.
This one is all about the running game and defense and when that happens it means not very many points so look for this one to fall under the total.
