Carolina Panthers vs. Seattle Seahawks
The Carolina Panthers and the Seattle Seahawks meet on Sunday in a NFC NFL Football match up. The Panthers are -3 point favorites over the Seahawks with an over/under point total set at 44.
The Carolina Panthers hardly look like the team that finished with the worst record in the NFL two years ago but at the same time they still don’t look like a playoff team. QB Cam Newton has completed 63.6 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and five interceptions and he has been sacked nine times and he has also run for 5.1 yards per carry and three touchdowns. DeAngelo Williams is averaging 4.0 yards per carry with two touchdowns and Johnathan Stewart is back on the field averaging 4.3 yards per carry. Greg Olsen is the Panthers leading receiver with 20 catches, Steve Smith has 17 catches, and Brandon LaFell and Mike Tolbert have 10 catches each. Defensively Carolina allows 27.3 points per game, 134.8 rushing yards per game, and 259 passing yards per game with three interceptions and 12 sacks. James Anderson has 33 tackles, Charles Godfrey has 31 tackles, and Charles Johnson and Dwan Edwards have 3.5 sacks each. If Carolina wants to truly compete for a spot in the playoffs they need to improve on their minus six turnover margin.
The Seattle Seahawks seem to be putting pieces together but like their opponents this week they don’t appear to have all of the pieces in place to be a legitimate contender. QB Russell Wilson has completed 60 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and four interceptions while being sacked eight times and he also averages 3.6 yards when he runs. Marshawn Lynch is just a bulldozer in the backfield averaging 4.6 yards per carry with two touchdowns and Robert Turbin averages five yards per carry in limited action. Sidney Rice has 12 catches and a touchdown, Zach Miller has nine catches, and Golden Tate has sven catches and two touchdowns. Defensively Seattle allows 14.5 points per game, 62.8 rushing yards per game, and 213 passing yards per game with three interceptions and 12 sacks. K.J. Wright has 30 tackles, Kam Chancellor has 28 tackles, and Chris Clemons has five sacks. Seattle has a solid defense, one of the NFL’s best, but the offense doesn’t appear to be doing their part.
Carolina is 4-1 against the spread following a loss, 5-2 against the spread after allowing more than 350 yards the previous week, and 1-4 against the spread following a cover. Seattle is 4-1 against the spread following a loss, 4-1 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread, and 17-37-2 against the spread in their last 56 road games. The home team has covered the spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
Don’t expect to see much scoring as both of these defenses match up against the opposing offenses well and my pick here is on the under.
