Washington Nationals vs. Milwaukee Brewers
The Washington Nationals and the Milwaukee Brewers face off on Monday afternoon for game four of their series in Washington. The Nationals are -135 favorites over the Brewers with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Washington Nationals have already clinched a spot in the post season and are now closing in on the NL East title though they didn’t get any closer with their loss on Sunday. Ian Desmond had two hits, Jayson Werth had a hit, and Adam LaRoche had a hit as the Nationals scored two runs on seven hits. On the mound Chien –Ming Wang allowed eight hits and two runs over four innings to not factor in the decision as Ryan Mattheus had a rough outing and took the loss. For Monday’s game Washington starts Jordan Zimmerman who has won his last two decisions. For the season Zimmerman has allowed 175 hits and 60 earned runs while striking out 141 over 182.2 innings of work for a 2.96 ERA.
The Milwaukee Brewers have played themselves back into playoff contention but even after Sunday’s win they are 2.5 games out of the Wildcard in the NL. Rickie Weeks had three hits and Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez were among those with two hits as the Brewers scored six runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo allowed six hits and two runs while striking out five over five innings to not factor in the decision as Brandon Kintzler got the win and John Axford earned his 33rd save. For Monday’s game Milwaukee starts Marco Estrada who has won his last two starts. For the season Estrada has allowed 117 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 129 over 126.1 innings of work for a 3.56 ERA.
Washington is 17-8 in their last 25 home games, 6-1 in their last six game four of a series, and 10-3 in Zimmerman’s last 13 starts. Milwaukee is 5-1 in their last six road games, 7-2 in their last nine games against the NL East, and 2-7 Estrada’s last nine road starts. Milwaukee is 204 in their last six games in Washington.
Washington has had the better year, mainly because of all of the blown saves by the Brewers bullpen but Milwaukee is playing the better baseball right now and they get the win.
