New York Yankees vs. Oakland Athletics
The New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics meet on Saturday for game two of their series at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are -160 favorites over the Athletics with an over/under run total set at 9.
It’s crunch time for the New York Yankees and as has been the history of this team, they are delivering when they need to. On Friday Russell Martin hit a 10th inning home run for the win And Alex Rodriguez and Ichiro Suzuki had two hits each as the Yankees scored two runs on eight hits. C.C. Sabathia had allowed three hits and struck out 11 over eight scoreless innings but didn’t factor in the decision as Rafael Soriano blew the save and David Robertson got the win. For Saturday’s game New York starts Ivan Nova who has won two of his last three decisions. For the season Nova has allowed 183 hits and 88 earned runs while striking out 147 over 163.1 innings of work for a 4.85 ERA.
The Oakland Athletics control their own destiny as they have a cushion in their position for the AL Wildcard but they didn’t do anything to get closer to clinching as they lost of Friday. Brandon Moss had a pinch hit home run, Colin Cowgill had a hit, and Stephen Drew had two hits as the A’s scored one run on four hits. On the mound Jarrod Parker allowed six hits and a run while striking out seven over eight innings to not factor in the decision as Sean Doolittle took the loss. For Saturday’s game Oakland starts Travis Blackley who starts after making his last two appearances from the bullpen. For the season Blackley has allowed 78 hits and 35 earned runs while striking out 63 over 93.2 innings of work for a 3.36 ERA.
New York is 6-0 in their last six games overall, 50-24 in their last 74 home games against a team with a winning record, and 1-4 in Nova’s last five home starts. Oakland is 13-4 in their last 17 road games, 7-4 in their last 11 games as a road underdog, and 5-1 in Blackley’s last six starts. Oakland is 4-16 in their last 20 games in New York.
This should be another tight game but I look for the A’s to get to Nova and get the win.
