New Orleans Saints vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The New Orleans Saints and the Kansas City Chiefs both look for their first win of the year as they face off Sunday in New Orleans in and NFL Football matchup. The Saints are -9.5 point favorites over the Chiefs with an over/under point total set at 53.
The New Orleans Saints just don’t look like the team who we have grown accustomed to seeing as the offense that used to keep their opponents off balance now just hurries up and keeps their own defense on the field for far too long. Drew Brees is completing just 54.5 percent of his passes for four touchdowns and four interceptions with three sacks, hardly the numbers we expect to see. Mark Ingram is averaging just 3.1 yards per carry with one touchdown while Pierre Thomas is averaging 9.8 yards per carry but has 13 carries for the year. Darren Sproles has 18 catches and Jimmy Graham has 13 making the leading wide receiver Lance Moore with eight followed by Marques Colston with seven. Defensively the Saints are worst in the NFL in yards allowed with 461 per game with 186 of those on the ground and 275 of them in the air with no interceptions and three sacks. Curtis Lofton has 19 tackles, Malcolm Jenkins has 15 tackles, and Cameron Jordan has 15 tackles. New Orleans is going to need to turn things around in a hurry before they get buried in the NFC South.
The Kansas City Chiefs have looked the part of the worst team in the NFL this season as they just haven’t been even competitive. Matt Cassel has completed 58.7 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and three interceptions but to make matters worse he has been sacked eight times. Jamaal Charles is back for the Chiefs and he’s averaging 4.1 yards per carry and he’s joined in the backfield by Peyton Hillis who is averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Dwayne Bowe leads KC in receiving with 11 catches and two touchdowns and Dexter McCluster has 10 catches. Defensively the Chiefs are allowing 377.5 yards per game with 142.5 of them being on the ground and and 235 coming through the air but they are allowing 37.5 points per game with no interceptions and one sack. Derrick Johnson has 17 tackles, Abram Elam has 14 tackles, and Tyson Jackson and Justin Houston have seven tackles each. The expectations were high for the Chiefs this season but they aren’t delivering.
New Orleans is 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 games overall, 17-7 against the spread following a loss, and 5-12 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Kansas City is 1-4 against the spread in their last five September games, 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games against a team with a winning home record, and 11-4-1 against the spread in week three games.
The Chiefs have been lousy but the Saints defense has been a sieve and I can see the Saints winning the game but by closer to 5 or 6 points.
