Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
The Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet on Saturday as they continue their series at Miller Park. The Brewers are -130 favorites over the Pirates with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Milwaukee Brewers have finally found their groove but at this point all they can do is think about what might have been. Aramis Ramirez and Corey Hart each had three hits and a home run and Nyjer Morgan added three hits as the Brewers scored nine runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Mark Rogers allowed five hits and a run and struck out five to raise his record to 3-1 on the year. For Saturday’s game Milwaukee starts Marco Estrada who has won his last two starts. For the season Estrada has allowed 99 hits and 45 earned runs while striking out 104 over 100.2 innings for a 4.02 ERA.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are still trying to stay alive in the post season race but they didn’t help their cause on Friday. Garrett Jones hit a home run and Aaron Presley and Pedro Alvarez had two hits each as the Pirates scored three runs on nine hits. On the mound Jeff Karstens allowed five hits and four runs lasting just a third of an inning to fall to 5-4 on the year. On Saturday Pittsburgh looks to bounce back as they send A.J. Burnett mound to try and get a much needed win. For the season Burnett has allowed 148 hits and 64 earned runs while striking out 136 over 157 innings for a 3.67 ERA.
Milwaukee is 8-1 in their last nine games as a favorite, 7-2 in their last nine games following a win, and are 5-1 in their last six home starts. Pittsburgh is 3-8 in their last 11 games overall, 3-7 in their last 10 games against a right handed starter, and 7-2 in Burnett’s last nine road starts. Pittsburg is 9-48 in their last 57 games in Milwaukee.
Pittsburgh is in a rough spot these days and this just seems like an unlikely spot for them to get better.
