Tennessee Titans vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tennessee Titans face off on Friday for a week 2 NFL Preseason game at Raymond James Stadium. The Bucaneers are -3 point favorites over the Titans with an over/under point total set at 37.
The Greg Schiano Era as Head Coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers began impressively as the Bucs won their first preseason game convincingly against the Miami Dolphins. Starting QB Josh Freeman played just one series but he went 4 of five. Backup Dan Orlovsky went 8 of 8 and Brett Ratliff went 6 of 11. LaGarrette Blount and Doug Martin both looked rock solid with Blount averaging 4.3 yards and scoring a touchdown and Martin averaging three yards per carry and scoring as well. Tiquan Underwood had three catches for 76 yards and Luke Stocker and Mike Williams each had catches as 15 different players caught at least one pass. Defensively Larry Asante led Tampa Bay with six tackles and Anthony Gaitor had four while LaVonte David grabbed an interception. Overall the Buccaneer defense allowed just 43 yards on the ground but 311 through the air. Schiano is looking for rookies Mark Barron and David to make their case to start as well as Martin.
The Tennessee Titans lost their preseason opener to the Seahawks but they had plenty of positives they got out of that game. QB Matt Hasselbeck got the start but he went 5 of 9 for 45 yards and threw two interceptions but Jake Locker continued to impress going 7 of 13 for 80 yards. Chris Johnson looked unimpressive carrying five times for eight yards but Darius Reynaud had five carries for 29 yards and returned a kick 85 yards for another TD. Rookie receiver Kendall Wright led the way with three catches for 47 yards while Herb Donaldson, Nate Washington, and Taylor Thompson all had three catches each. Colin McCarthy had five tackles and an interception and Alterraun Verner also had five tackles and Karl Klug and Zach Clayton each had sacks. The Titans allowed 135 yards on the ground and 186 yards passing. If Locker continues to outplay Hasselbeck he will more than likely take over as the starter regardless, we will see more of the starters this week and more than likely an improved performance by Johnson.
This one shapes up to be a decent game as both of these teams have some quality players and coaching and with plenty of players fighting to make the roster we should see 60 minutes of maximum effort. At this point though I see the Titans being a little deeper and with Locker playing more I like Tennessee’s chances.
