New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners

The New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners start off a full day of baseball with an afternoon meeting in the Bronx.  The Yankees are -150 favorites over the Mariners with an over/under run total set at 8.

The New York Yankees have been banged up but they still have the best record in the American League following Friday’s win. On Friday Eric Chavez had two hits including a home run, Robinson Cano had two hits, and Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson had hits as the Yankees scored six runs on 12 hits. On the mound C.C. Sabathia was simply a force allowing three hits and three runs while striking out 10 going to full nine innings to raise his record to 11-3 on the year. For Saturday’s game New York starts Hiroki Kuroda who has won his last five decisions. For the year Kuroda has allowed 126 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 107 over 137.1 innings of work for a 3.28 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners have been playing well of late but they met their match in the Bronx on Friday. Dustin Ackley and Casper Wells both hit home runs and Miguel Olivo had a hit as the Mariners scored three runs on just the three hits. On the mound Kevin Millwood allowed nine hits and four earned runs while striking out three over six innings to fall to 4-9 on the year. For Saturday’s game Seattle starts Felix Hernandez who is having another big year. For the season Hernandez has allowed 137 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 153 over 155 innings for a 2.79 ERA.

New York is 2-4 in their last six games as a home favorite, 0-4 in their last for game two of a series, and 4-1 in Kuroda’s last five home starts. Seattle is 7-1 in their last seven games overall, 5-3 in their last eight road games, and 2-5 in Hernandez’s last seven road starts. Seattle is 4-10 in the last 14 meetings of these two.

This should be a good one and a great way to start the day for the fans, unfortunately a tough call for the bettors and I will take Seattle in what is just a lean.
