The Baltimore Orioles are ready to bear down for a playoff run and they looked motivated in their win on Friday. Chris Davis hit three home runs, J.J. Hardy had two hits, and Adam Jones had a hit as the Orioles scored six runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Zach Britton allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out six over 6.2 innings to go to 3-1 on the year and Jim Johnson earned his 39th save. For Saturday’s game Baltimore starts Steve Johnson who has allowed nine hits and four earned runs while striking out 16 over 11 innings for a 3.27 ERA.
The Toronto Blue Jays were hoping to contend this season but instead it looks like there worst season in several years. On Friday Rajai Davis had a hit, Edwin Encarnacion had two hits, and Kelly Johnson had a hit as the Blue Jays scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Carlos Villenueva allowed five hits and four runs while striking out four over 5.2 innings to fall to 6-4 on the year. For Saturday’s game Toronto starts Brandon Morrow who returns from the 60 day DL. For the season Morrow allowed 54 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 67 over 77.2 innings of work for a 3.01 ERA.
Baltimore is 8-2 in their last 10 games as a home favorite, 9-3 in their last 12 home games, and 15-7 in their last 22 Saturday games. Toronto is 7-20 in their last 27 games overall, 1-6 in their last seven games against the AL East, and 7-3 in Morrow’s last 10 starts. Toronto is 36-18 in the last 54 meetings of these two.
This should be a decent game but the Jays are struggling and the Orioles look to be too tough for them here.
