The St. Louis Cardinals could get the bats going on Tuesday as they fell to the Rockies in a series in which all games should be winnable for them. Matt Holliday hit a two run home run, Jon Jay had two hits, and David Freese had a hit as the Cardinals scored two runs on nine hits. On the mound Joe Kelly allowed five hits and three runs, two of them earned while striking out five over six innings to take his first loss of the season. Tyler Colvin hit a three run home run and Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer each had hits as the Rockies scored three runs on five hits in all. On the mound Jeff Francis was solid allowing five hits and two runs over five innings for his second win of the year while Rafael Betancourt earned his 13th save. For Wednesday’s game Colorado starts Jeremy Guthrie who has been relegated to the bullpen of late. St. Louis is a huge favorite here and Wainwright doesn’t deserve that much credit but this is more of a play against Guthrie than for Wainwright.
