Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners

The Oakland Athletics and the Seattle Mariners face off on Friday in game one of their series in Oakland.  The Athletics are -155 favorites over the Mariners with an over/under run total set at 7.

The Oakland Athletics don’t have the depth of some of the higher budget teams but they have proven they can play with just about anyone. The A’s are 6-4 in their last 10 games, 22-19 at home this season, and they are 9.5 games off the pace in the American League West. As a team the Athletics are hitting .225 with Yoenis Cespedes hitting .270, Josh Reddick at .259, and Brandon Inge at .224. As a team the A’s pitching staff has an ERA of 3.44 with the starters at 3.69 and the bullpen at 2.92. For game one against the Mariners Oakland starts Tom Milone who lost last time out despite allowing just one earned run. For the season Milone has allowed 97 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 63 over 101.1 innings of work for a 3.73 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners have been sinking in the standings and are once again playing a season looking for better things next year. The Mariners are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 19-24 on the road this season, and they are 16 games back in the A.L. West. As a team the Mariners are hitting .231 with Ichiro Suzuki hitting .262, Michael Saunders hitting .257, and Jesus Montero hitting .245. As a team the Mariners pitching staff has an ERA of 4.06 with the starters at 4.52 and the bullpen at 3.13. For game one against Oakland Seattle starts Kevin Millwood who once again left his last start early with an injury. For the season Millwood has allowed 80 hits and 37 earned runs while striking out 62 over 83.1 innings of work for a 4.00 ERA.

Oakland is 10-1 in their last 11 home games against a right handed starter, 2-5 in their last seven hoem games against a team with a losing record, and 5-1 in Milone’s last six home starts. Seattle is 4-1 in their last five games following a loss, 28-65 in their last 93 games against a left handed starter, and 2-5 in Millwood’s last seven road starts.

The total in this one is set at 7 and I don’t see it staying under that number so my pick will be the over.
