New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Angels

The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels get back to the baseball diamond as they meet on Friday for game one of their series at Yankee Stadium.  The Yankees are -130 favorites over the Angels with an over/under run total set at 9.5.

The New York Yankees hit the All Star Break with the best record in baseball with their seemingly aging lineup not showing any signs of slowing down. The Yankees are 6-4 in their last 10 games, 25-16 at home this year, and they have a seven game lead over the second place Orioles in the A.L. East. As a team the Yankees are hitting .262 with Robinson Cano hitting .313, Derek Jeter at .308, and Alex Rodriguez at .269. As a team the Yankees pitching staff has an ERA of 3.73 with the starters at 3.96 and the bullpen at 3.20. For game one against the Angels the Yankees start Hiroki Kuroda who has come on strong winning five of his last six decisions. For the season Kuroda has allowed 104 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 83 over 108 innings of work for a 3.50 ERA.

The Los Angeles Angels have made a move into post season contention but they have a bigger goal, to win the A.L. West. The Angels are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 23-20 on the road this season, and they are four games behind the Rangers in the A.L. West. As a team the Angels are hitting .268 with Mike Trout hitting .341, Mark Trumbo hitting .306, and Albert Pujols at .268. As a team the Angels pitching staff has an ERA of 3.61 with the starters at 3.81 and the bullpen at 3.16. For game one at Yankee Stadium the Angels start C.J. Wilson who had his way with the Yankees in a meeting back in April. For the season Wilson has allowed 80 hits and 30 earned runs while striking out 88 over 111.1 innings of work for a 2.43 ERA.

New York is 9-1 following an off day, 24-9 in their last 33 games overall, and 5-2 in Kuroda’s last seven home starts. Los Angeles is 4-1 in their last five games following an off day, 16-5 in their last 21 road games, and 1-4 in their last five road games against a right handed starter. Los Angeles is 1-4 in their last five games in New York.

The Yankees are favored here because they are the better team and they are home and I look for them to get the win.
