Minnesota Twins vs. Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers and the Minnesota Twins meet on Saturday for game two of their series in Arlington.  The Rangers are -210 favorites over the Twins with an over/under run total set at 11.

The Texas Rangers have been the hottest team with the best record for the bulk of the first half of the season but now they have lost five games in a row and are looking for answers and a win. On Friday Nelson Cruz and Craig Gentry had two hits each and Adrian Beltre and Michael Young had hits as the Rangers scored one run on six hits. On the mound Martin Perez allowed six hits and four runs, two of them earned, while striking out three over six innings to take his first loss. For Saturday’s game Texas looks to bounce back as they start Derek Holland who returns from the 15 day DL. For the season Holland has allowed 65 hits and 38 earned runs while striking out 59 over 67 innings of work for a 5.10 ERA.

The Minnesota Twins were not intimidated going into Texas on Friday and they dealt the Rangers a loss in the series opener. Justin Morneau had two hits including a home run, Joe Mauer had a hit, and Ben Revere had two hits as the Twins scored five runs on nine hits in all. Starter Francisco Liriano continued his strong play as he allowed five hits and a run while striking out six over 6.2 nnings of work for his third win of the season. For Saturday’s game Minnesota starts Samuel Deduno who makes his first Major League start of working out of the bullpen the past two years in Colorado and San Diego. Last year for the Padres Deduno allowed five hits and a run while striking out four over three innings for a 3.00 ERA.

Texas is 5-2 in their last seven game two of a series, 40-19 in their last 59 home games, and 13-5 in Holland’s last 18 starts. Minnesota is 5-1 in their last six games following a win, 7-2 in their last nine games overall, and 17-35 in their last 52 game two of a series. Minnesota is 2-4 in the last six games between these two.

I am going with the Twins today as a big underdog.
