Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves meet for game one of two on Saturday afternoon in Washington.  The Nationals are -130 favorites over the Braves with an over/under run total set at 8.5.

The Washington Nationals got out to a big lead on Friday but they were unable to hold it as they fell to the Braves in extra innings. Michael Morse, Ryan Zimmerman, and Danny Espinisa all homed as Morse and Steve Lombardozzi both had three hits as the Nationals scored 10 runs on 15 hits in all. On the mound Stephen Strasburg allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out five over 5.1 innings of work to not factor in the decision as Tyler Clippard blew his second save of the week and Tom Gorzelanny took the loss. For game one on Saturday Washington starts Edwin Jackson who lost in his last start. For the season Jackson has allowed 91 hits and 46 earned runs while striking out 77 over 106.1 innings of work for a 3.89 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves fell behind big on Friday but they dug in and never gave up and got the huge comeback win. Dan Uggla and Freddie Freeman had three hits each and Brian McCann and Jason Heyward had two hits each as the Braves scored 11 runs on 15 hits. On the mound Tommy Hanson allowed eight hits and eight runs while striking out five over four innings of work to not factor in the decision as Ed O’Flahery got the win and Chad Durbin earned the save. For game one on Saturday Atlanta starts Ben Sheets who was lights out in his first start this year. In his last start Sheets allowed two hits and struck out five over six scoreless innings.

Washington is 8-4 in their last 12 home games, 24-12 in their last 36 games as a home favorite, and 1-4 in Jackson’s last five starts as a favorite. Atlanta is 7-0 in their last seven against the N.L. East, 9-2 in their last 11 games overall, and 11-3 in their last 14 road games. Atlanta is 3-8 in the last 11 meetings of these two.

The total in this one is set at 8.5 and despite the big number on Friday I look for it to stay under.
