San Francisco Giants vs. Chicago Cubs

The San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs meet on Friday in game one of their series at AT&T Park.  The Giants are -165 favorites over the Cubs with an over/under run total set at 7.

The San Francisco Giants are tryi9ng to play catch up in the N.L. West and try and overcome another season with a slew of injuries. For game one against the Cubs San Francisco starts Madison Bumgarner who has lost his last three decisions. For the season Bumgarner has allowed 59 hits while striking out 47 over 66 innings for a 3.14 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs have one of the worst records in baseball but they are on a three game winning streak after sweeping the Padres earlier this week. The Cubs are 3-7 in their last 10 games, 6-17 on the road this season, and they are 10 games back in the N.L. Central. As a team the Cubs are hitting .249 with Starlin Castro hitting .317, Bryan LaHair hitting .308, and David Dejesus hitting .288. As a team the Cubs pitching staff has an ERA of 4.35 with the starters at 4.39 and the bullpen at 4.28. For game one at San Francisco Chicago starts Paul Maholm who has two no decisions and a loss in his last three starts. For the season Maholm has allowed 47 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 29 over 50.2 innings for an ERA of 4.62.

San Francisco is 4-1 in their last five games following a loss, 5-2 in their last seven home games, and 12-5 in Bumgarner’s last 17 starts. Chicago is 6-14 in their last 20 games following a win, 3-12 in their last 15 games overall, and 0-8 in their last eight games as an underdog. Chicago has won four of the last five meetings of these two.

The Giants have the edge here and while the Cubs have won their last three those were against the Padres and they aren’t playing them here.
