New York Mets vs. New York Yankees

The New York Mets and the New York Yankees meet on Saturday for game two of their series at Citi Field.  The Yankees are -150 favorites over the Mets with an over/under run line set at 9.

The New York Mets took it on the chin in their recent series in the Bronx against the Yankees but they took step one in restoring their confidence as they took game one of this weekend’s series which they are at home. Ike Davis hit a three run home run and Justin Turner and David Wright had two hits each as the Mets scored six runs on 10 hits. Starter Jon Niese allowed eight hits and two runs while striking out five over 6.1 innings for his fifth win of the season while Frank Francisco earned his 18th save. For Saturday’s game the Mets start Chris Young who is looking to bounce back from a loss in his last start. For the season Young has allowed 24 hits and six earned runs while striking out eight over 17.2 innings of work for a 3.06 ERA.

The New York Yankees were on their longest winning streak of the season and they are now on a three game losing streak as they fell to the Mets on Friday. Alex Rodriguez, Andruw Jones, and Robinson Cano all homered and Mark Teixeira added two hits as the Yankees scored four runs on 11 hits. On the mound Andy Pettitte was hit hard early but in all he allowed seven hits and five earned runs while striking out six over six innings for his third loss of the season. For Saturday’s game New York starts Ivan Nova who is pitching his best he has all season allowing less than a run per game over his last three starts. For the season Nova has allowed 95 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 73 over 85.1 innings of work for a 4.32 ERA.

The Mets are 7-0 against the A.L. East, 5-0 in their last five home games, and 7-0 in their last seven interleague games against a team with a winning record. The Yankees are 7-1 in their last eight road games, 13-4 in their last 17 games against a team with a winning record, and 24-6 in Nova’s last 30 starts. The Yankees are 7-2 in the last nine meetings of these two.

I expect to see plenty of scoring once again in this one and my pick will be on the over.
