Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet for game two of their series at Coors Field. The Rockies are -135 favorites over the Dodgers with an over/under run total set at 10.5.
The Colorado Rockies are still buried in the standings in the N.L. West but they have won five games in a row and are playing their best baseball of the season thus far. On Friday Wilin Rosario, Michael Cuddyer, and Chris Nelson all hit home runs and Dexter Fowler had three hits as the Rockies scored 13 runs on 15 hits. On the mound Josh Outman left after just 3.1 innings so it was Adam Ottavino who got the win. For Saturday’s game Colorado starts Juan Nicasio who hasn’t won in his last five starts. For the season Nicasio has allowed 68 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 53 over 56.1 innings of work for a 5.11 ERA.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were looking like runaway winners of the N.L. West but they have now lost five games in a row and their lead has shrunk to just four games over the Giants. On Friday Tony Gwynn Jr., Scott Van Slyke, and Alex Castellanos each had two hits as the Dodgers scored three runs off of 10 hits. On the mound Chris Capuano allowed seven hits and seven runs while striking out three over 5.1 innings of work for his second loss of the year. For Saturday’s game Los Angele starts Aaron Harang who took the loss in his last outing. For the year harang has allowed 59 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 50 over 58.2 innings of work for a 4.14 ERA.
Colorado is 5-0 in their last five home games, 5-2 in their last seven games against a right handed starter, and 1-4 in Nicasio’s last five starts. Los Angeles is 4-1 in their last five game two of a series, 17-8 in their last 25 games against the N.L. West, and 4-1 in Harang’s last five starts against the N.L. West. Los Angeles is 1-5 in their last six games in Colorado.
I give Harang the edge on the mound but overall the Rockies are playing the better ball. The pick here is a lean at best.
