Cleveland Indians vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

The Cleveland Indians and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet for game two of their three game series as they face off in Cleveland on Saturday.  The Indians are -130 favorites over the Pirates with an over/under run total set at 8.

The Cleveland Indians ended their three game losing streak on Friday as the beat the Pirates in the first game of this series. Casey Kotchman had two hits and Carlos Santana and Michael Brantley had a hit each as the Indians scored two runs on six hits. On the mound starter Justin Masterson allowed four hits and struck out nine over seven innings for just his third win of the year and Chris Perez earned his 21st save of the season. For Saturday’s game Cleveland starts Ubaldo Jimenez who has won three of his last four decisions. For the season Jimenez has allowed 68 hits and 38 earned runs while striking out 44 over 69.2 innings of work for a 4.91 ERA.

The Pittsburgh Pirates lost on Friday for the fourth time in a row and while they were looking to contend in the N.L. Central a week ago they are now looking just to get some positive momentum going again. On Friday Neil Walker and Casey McGehee each had two hits and Josh Harrison had a hit as the Pirates were unable to score on their five hits. On the mound James McDonald allowed three hits and a run and struck out five over six innings but he took his third loss of the year. For Saturday’s game Pittsburgh looks to end the losing as they start A.J. Burnett who has won five starts in a row. For the season Burnett has allowed 58 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 56 over 62.1 innings of work for a 3.61 ERA.

Cleveland is 7-2 in their last nine interleague games as a favorite, 6-1 in their last seven home games against a right handed starter, and 7-3 in Jimenez’s last 10 starts as a favorite. Pittsburgh is 1-4 in their last five game two of a series, 9-52 in their last 61 interleague home games, and 7-0 in Burnett’s last seven starts. Pittsburgh has lost five in a row in Cleveland.

Burnett has been a stopper this season and he has been unbeatable of late and he ends the Pirates struggles at least for a day with a win as a dog in this spot.
