Baltimore Orioles vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

The Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates close out their three game series in Baltimore on Thursday. The Baltimore Orioles are -115 favorites over the Pirates with an over/under run total set at 8.5.

The Baltimore Orioles go for the sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates after winning the first two games in a convincing manner. On Wednesday Wilson Betemit had three hits including a home run, Chris Davis had two hits including a home run, and J.J. Hardy had three hits as the Orioles scored seven runs on 13 hits. On the mound Jake Arrieta got the start and he allowed seven hits and a run while striking out nine over seven innings for his third win of the season. For Thursday’s game Baltimore starts Tommy Hunter who hasn’t notched a win in his last seven starts. For the season Hunter has allowed 77 hits and 39 earned runs while striking out 33 over 65 innings of work for a 5.40 ERA.

The Pittsburgh Pirates looked to be making a move in the N.L. Central standings until they arrived in Baltimore and have hit an abrupt road block. On Wednesday Aaron Presley, Casey Mcgehee, and Jose Tabata all had two hits each as the Pirates scored just a run on eight hits in all. On the mound Kevin Correia allowed 10 hits and five runs, four earned, over six innings of work to take his sixth loss of the season. On Thursday Pittsburgh looks to salvage a win as they start Erik Bedard who has won two of his last three starts. For the season Bedard has allowed 58 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 61 over 62.2 innings of work for a 3.59 ERA.

Baltimore is 5-0 in their last five home games, 5-1 in their last six games following a win, and 10-4 in Hunter’s last 14 starts. Pittsburgh is 5-0 in their last five game three of a series, 12-6 in their last 18 games overall, and 6-2 in Bedard’s last eight starts. Pittsburgh is 1-5 in their last six games in Baltimore.

With the total set at 8.5 that looks to be right on but I see this one sliding under that number.
