St. Louis Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet on Wednesday at Busch Stadium for game two of their series.  The Cardinals are -175 favorites over the Pirates with an over/under point total set at 7.

The St. Louis Cardinals continue to play solid baseball as the downed the Pirates on Tuesday. David Freese hit a three run home run, Matt Holliday had three hits including a home run as he drove ion and scored two runs, and Rafael Furcal had two hits, drove in two runs, and scored twice as the Cardinals scored 10 runs on13 hits. On the mound Adam Wainwright allowed five hits and four earned runs while striking out six over seven innings to earn his first win of the year and Jason Motte earned his fourth save if the season. For Wednesday’s game St. Louis starts Lance Lynn who is off to a perfect 4-0 start. For the season Lynn has allowed 16 hits and four earned runs while striking out 24 over 27 innings of work for a 1.33 ERA.

The Pittsburgh Pirates had their chances on Tuesday in St. Louis but in the end they came up short and were handed the loss. Jose Tabata hit a two run home run, Pedro Alvarez had two hits including a two run home run and he drove in three runs, and Neil Walker had two hits as the Pirates scored seven runs on nine hits. On the mound Charlie Morton allowed eight hits and five earned runs while striking out five over 4.1 innings of work and he took the loss though Jared Hughes and Tony Watson provided little relief out of the bullpen. For Wednesday game Pittsburgh starts A.J. Burnett who took a loss in his last start. For the season Burnett has allowed nine hits and two earned runs while striking out 15 over 13 innings of work for a 1.38 ERA.

St. Louis is 11-1 in their last 12 Wednesday games, 22-8 in their last 30 home games, and 5-0 in Lynn’s last five starts. Pittsburgh is 2-5 in their last seven Wednesday games, 1-5 in their last six games against the N.L. Central, and 65-151 as a road underdog. Pittsburgh is 4-13 in their last 17 meetings in St. Louis.

The total is set low at seven but I still have this one staying under that number.
