Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers
The Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers meet on Wednesday for the rubber match of their three game series in Seattle. The Rangers are -155 favorites over the Mariners with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Seattle Mariners got their series started against division leading Texas with a win on Monday but they could repeat the feat on Tuesday as they dropped game two. Ichiro Suzuki and Brendan Ryan each had two hits and Justin Smoak had a hit as the Mariners scored once on seven hits. On the mound Hector Noesi allowed three hits and three runs while striking out seven over eight innings to take his fifth loss of the year. For Wednesday’s game Seattle starts Kevin Millwood who seems to have found some answers allowing a total of five hits and a run over his last two starts. For the season Millwood has allowed 48 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 35 over 49.2 innings of work for a 4.17 ERA.
The Texas Rangers have the second biggest lead of any division leader in baseball this year and they did nothing to hurt their cause getting the win on Tuesday in Seattle. Elvis Andrus, Josh Hamilton, Adrian Beltre, and Michael Young each had hits as the Rangers had four hits and scored three runs in all. On the mound Matt Harrison allowed seven hits and a run while striking out six over seven innings for his fifth win of the season and Joe Nathan earned his 10th save. For Wednesday’s game Texas starts Scott Feldman who has lost his only start this year after working mostly from the bullpen. For the year Feldman has allowed 15 hits and five earned runs while striking out seven over 15 innings of work for a 3.00 ERA.
Seattle is 4-1 in their last five games overall, 32-66 in their last 98 games as an underdog, and 2-5 in Millwood’s last seven starts. Texas is 41-13 in their last 54 games against the A.L. West, 39-17 as a road favorite, and 3-8 in Feldman’s last 11 starts. Texas is 7-2 in their last nine games in Seattle.
There isn’t much debating that Texas is the better team but with Feldman going and with Millwood pitching well I’ll take my chances with the decent odds.
