The Minnesota Twins are already mired in their second consecutive lost season as they were no-hit in their last game before getting Thursday off. The Twins have lost here in a row, are 1-9 in their last 10 games, 3-10 on the road, and seven games back in the A.L. Central. As a team the Twins are hitting .250 with Denard Span at .327, Josh Willingham at .325, and Joe Mauer at .302. For game one against the M’s Minnesota starts Carl Pavano who hasn’t been able to hold anyone down. For the season Pavano has allowed 32 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 17 over 33 innings of work for a 4.91 ERA.
Seattle is 2-6 in their last eight games as a favorite, 0-4 in their last four home games, and 10-4 in Vargas’ last 14 starts as a home favorite. Minnesota is 15-38 in their last 53 road games, 5-27 in their last 32 games against a team with a losing record, and 1-4 in Pavano’s last five road starts.
Neither of these teams are to be trusted at this point but given the choice Seattle with Vargas is my play.
