Seattle Mariners vs. Minnesota Twins
The Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins meet for game two of their series between two of the worst teams in baseball this season. The Mariners are -205 favorites over the Twins with an over/under run total set at 7.
The Seattle Mariners struggles continued on Friday as they lost for the seventh time in a row. Jesus Montero had two hits and scored a run, Kyle Seagar had a hit and scored, and Brendan Ryan had two hits as the Mariners scored twice on eight hits. On the mound Jason Vargas allowed four hits and a run while striking out five over 6.1 innings of work to not factor in the decision and Tom WiIlhelsen allowed two runs in a third of an inning to blow the save and take the loss. For Saturday’s game Seattle looks to end the losing as they start Felix Hernandez who has been outstanding once again this season. For the year Hernandez has allowed 34 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 42 in 44.1 innings of work for a 2.23 ERA.
The Minnesota Twins ended their losing on Friday but it has been a long season already for them. On Saturday Jamey Carroll had two hits, Joe Mauer had a hit and drove in a run, and Chros Parmalee had a hit and scored a run as the Twins scored three runs on five hits. On the mound Carl Pavano allowed eight hits and two runs while striking out two over six innings of work for his second win of the year and Matt Capps earned his fifth save. For Saturday’s game Minnesota starts Jason Marquis who has won his only two decisions this year. For the season Marquis has allowed 24 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out seven over 17.1 innings of work for a 6.23 ERA.
Seattle is 0-6 in their last six games against a right handed starter, 0-5 in their last five road games, and 4-1 in Hernandez’s last five starts against a team with a losing record. Minnesota is 16-38 in their last 54 road games, 15-47 in their last 62 games overall, and 106 in their last seven games against the A.L. West. Seattle is 1-4 in Hernandez’s last five starts against Minnesota.
I like King Felix and the Seattle Mariners to get this win in this one.
