San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

The San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet for game two of their series in San Francisco.  The Giants are -135 favorites over the Diamondbacks with an over/under run total set at 7.

The San Francisco Giants are further back in their division race than any second place team in baseball but there are plenty of games left to be played and of course there is also two Wild Card spots. On Monday Gregor Blanco and Brandon Belt had two hits each and Melky Cabrera and Angel Pagan added hits as the Giants scored four runs on nine hits. On the mound Barry Zito allowed seven hits and two earned runs while striking out three over seven innings for his fourth win of the year and Santiago Casilla earned his 13th save. For Tuesday’s game San Francisco starts Ryan Vogelsong who has won his last three decisions. For the season Vogelsong has allowed 43 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 38 over 54 innings of work for a 2.50 ERA.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have dug themselves a big hole and they will need to put together wins quickly if they want to return to relevancy this season. On Monday John McDonald had a pinch hit home run and Paul Goldschmidt and Chris Young had two hits each as the Diamondbacks scored two runs on nine hits. On the mound Trevor Cahill allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out five over six innings to take his fifth loss of the year. For Tuesday’s game Arizona starts Joe Saunders who won in his last start. For the season Saunders has allowed 60 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 36 over 57 innings of work for a 3.79 ERA.

San Francisco is 6-2 in their last eight game two of a series, 6-2 in their last eight games as a home favorite, and 3-7 in Vogelsong’s last 10 home starts. Arizona is 3-8 in their last 11 games against the N.L. West, 2-8 in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record, and 1-4 in Saunders’ last five starts as an underdog. Arizona is 27-60 in their last 87 games in San Francisco.

I’m not looking for a ton of scoring here and I see it coming in under the total.
