San Antonio Spurs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
The red hot San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder square off in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. The Spurs are -5.5 point favorites over the Thunder with an over/under point total set at 201.
Head to head, the Thunder are 2-7 ATS in the last 9 meetings and 4-11-1 ATS in the last 16 meetings in San Antonio. The Spurs are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, 15-6-2 ATS in their last 23 playoff games as a favorite of 5.0-10.5 and 22-4-1 ATS in their last 27 home games. The Thunder on the other hand are 21-7 ATS in their last 28 games as a road underdog of 5.0-10.5 and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall, but just 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
To put it bluntly, there are no two hotter teams in the league right now than the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Between them, they have won 17 of a possible 18 playoff games to date, easily dispatching of their two opening round opponents. After dispatching Utah and Los Angeles by an average of 14 points per game, the Spurs are flirting with history as they are currently riding an 18 game winning streak heading into tonight’s game. The Thunder on the other hand sent the last two NBA champions home, only dropping a single game during the process.
San Antonio managed to take the regular season series against the Oklahoma City 2-1. The Thunder won the first meeting in Oklahoma City quite comfortably 108-96. However, the Spurs would respond in the next two meetings as they would win by double digits on both occasions.
Given the time both teams have had off and the fact that it’s the Western Conference Finals, we could see a little rust in the first half tonight. While you can’t really fault anything the Thunder have done in the playoffs so far, the Spurs are on another level and they have been my pick to win the whole thing for a couple of months now. Going against OKC as five point underdogs is always a risky proposititon, however I think it’s warranted here the Spurs should win and get the cover in Game 1.
