Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals face off on Tuesday for game two of their series in Philadelphia.  The Phillies are -160 favorites over the Nationals with an over/under run total set at 6.5.

The Philadelphia Phillies struggles continued this season as they lost for the third time in a row falling to the Nationals on Monday. Placido Polanco and Shane Victorino each had two hits and Juan Pierre added a hit as the Phillies had six hits and scored on run. On the mound Kyle Kendrick allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out four over seven innings to take his fourth loss of the season. For Tuesday’s game Philadelphia starts Roy Halladay who won last time out after going winless over his five prior starts. For the season Halladay has allowed 56 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 50 over 64.1 innings of work for a 3.22 ERA.

The Washington Nationals have been solid thus far this season and if the season were to end today they would easily be in the post season. On Monday Ian Desmond homered and had two hits, Bryce Harper had two hits, and Jesus Flores had a hit as the Nationals scored twice on five hits. On the mound Gio Gonzalez allowed three hits and struck out nine over six scoreless innings to get the win and Sean Burnett earned his second save of the year. For Tuesday’s rematch Washington starts Jordan Zimmerman who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Zimmerman has allowed 44 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 38 over 52.1 innings of work for a 2.58 ERA.

Philadelphia is 5-1 in their last six games as a favorite, 1-6 in their last seven games against a team with a winning record, and 1-4 in Halladay’s last five starts against a team with a winning record. Washington is 11-4 in their last 15 games as a road underdog, 4-7 in their last 11 road games, and 5-13 in Zimmerman’s last 18 starts against the N.L. East.

The total in this is set at 6.5 and as low as it is I still have this one coming in under the number.
