Oakland Athletics vs. New York Yankees
The Oakland Athletics look to avoid getting swept at home as they host the New York Yankees on Sunday. The Yankees are -130 favorites over the Athletics with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Oakland Athletics are starting to struggle as they lost for the fourth time in a row on Saturday. Collin Cowgill had three hits, Jemile Weeks had two hits, and Josh Reddick hit a solo home run but it wasn’t nearly enough as the A’s scored two runs on seven hits. On the mound Bortolo Colon was hit hard allowing nine hits and six runs while striking out three over six innings for his fifth loss of the year. For Sunday’s game Oakland starts Tom Milone who has won three of his last four starts. For the season Milone has allowed 49 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 32 over 57.2 innings of work for a 3.75 ERA.
The New York Yankees gained a game in the A.L. East standings on Saturday with their win and Baltimore’s home loss to Kansas City. On Saturday Mark Teixeira had four hits including two home runs, Robinson Cano had three hits including a home run, and Derek Jeter had two hits as the Yankees scored nine runs on 14 hits. On the mound C.C. Sabathia was overpowering once again allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four over seven innings to earn his sixth win of the season. For Sunday’s game New York starts Hiroki Kuroda who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Kuroda has allowed 59 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 34 over 53.1 innings of work for a 4.56 ERA.
Oakland is 2-6 in their last eight games overall, 1-5 in their last six home games, and 5-2 in Milone’s last seven starts. New York is 5-2 in their last seven road games against a left handed starter, 6-2 in their last eight road games against a team with a losing record, and 2-5 in Kuroda’s last seven starts. New York is 21-8 in their last 29 games in Oakland.
With the total set at eight it looks to be about right but I have a slight lean to the under.
