New York Yankees vs. Cincinnati Reds

The New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds meet on Saturday in the Bronx for game two of their interleague series.  The Yankees are -160 favorites over the Reds with an over/under run total set at 10.

The New York Yankees’ bats were quiet most of the night but they got the job done on the mound as they won game one of their series against the visiting Reds. Robinson Cano had two hits and a solo home run, Raul Ibanez hit a two run home run, and Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson each had two hits as they Yankees scored four runs on nine hits. On the mound Andy Pettitte was sensational as he allowed four hits and struck out nine over eight scoreless innings for his first win in two years. For Saturday’s game New York starts Ivan Nova who left last game with an injury but he is ready to start here. For the season Nova has allowed 58 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 40 over 43 innings of work for a 5.44 ERA.

The Cincinnati Reds fought the good fight on Friday but in the end they were overcome by a crafty veteran and a power hitting lineup. Drew Stubbs, Chris Heisey, Todd Frazier, and Ryan Hanigan each had hits but that was all the Reds managed as they had four hits for the game. On the mound Bronson Arroyo allowed nine hits and four earned runs while striking out four over 17.2 innings to take his second loss of the year. For Saturday’s game Cincinnati starts Homer Bailey who has stayed healthy but he isn’t seeing great results on the mound. For the season Bailey has allowed 46 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 27 over 41.1 innings of work for a 4.35 ERA.

New York is 2-6 in their last eight game two of a series, 74-31 in their last 105 home interleague games, and 21-7 in Nova’s last 28 starts. Cincinnati is 6-14 in their last 20 interleague games, 2-5 in their last seven interleague games against a right handed starter, and 2-8 in Bailey’s last 10 starts as an underdog.

The total in this one is set at 10 and after the bats were kind of quiet on Friday expect them to come out here and for this one to go over the total.
