Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals
The Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals meet on Tuesday for game two of their series in Miami. The Marlins are -140 favorites over the Nationals with an over/under run total set at 7.
The Miami Marlins continued their strong play as they beat the division leading Nationals on Monday and moved into a tie for second in the N.L. East. On Monday Hanley Ramirez had three hits, Logan Morrison had two hits including a home run, and Giancarlo Stanton hit a two run home run as the Marlins scored five runs on nine hits in all. On the mound Carlos Zambrano allowed seven hits and three earned runs while striking out five over six innings to get his third win of the year and Heath Bell pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to get his eighth save. For Tuesday’s rematch Miami starts Anibal Sanchez who has lost his last three starts. For the season Sanchez has allowed 51 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 62 over 59.2 innings of work for a 2.87 ERA.
The Washington Nationals have been spectacular this year but the night game followed by a plane flight and a day game against a hard throwing pitcher and a hot team were just too much for them to overcome on Monday. Steve Lombardozzi had three hits, Bryce Harper had a hit, and starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman hit a solo home run. On the mound Zimmerman allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out four over six innings to take his fifth loss of the season. For Tuesday’s game Washington starts Edwin Jackson who has five no decisions sandwiched in between two losses in his last seven starts. For the season Jackson has allowed 47 hits and 22 earned runs while striking out 50 over 58.2 innings of work for a 3.38 ERA.
Miami is 19-8 in their last 27 games overall, 4-9 in their last 13 game against the N.L. East, and 1-4 in Sanchez’s last five starts. Washington is 6-2 in their last eight games, 6-1 in their last seven road games against a team with a winning home record, and 0-5 in Jackson’s last five road starts. The Marlins are 17-35 in their last 52 games against Washington.
The total in this one is set at seven and I see it going over that number.
