The Los Angeles Angels are not having a good year so far but they have strung together two wins in a row and that’s something they haven’t been able to do often this season. On Tuesday Howard Kendrick had three hits including a home run, Torii Hunter had a home run, two hits, and drove in two runs, and Mike Trout had a hit as the Angels scored four runs on seven hits. On the mound Jerome Williams went the distance as he allowed three hits and struck out six over nine shutout innings to earn his second win of the year. For Wednesday’s game Los Angeles starts Jered Weaver who had a no decision in his last outing. For the season Weaver has allowed 28 hits and eight earned runs while striking out 36 over 35.2 innings of work for a 2.02 ERA.
The Minnesota Twins are already 11 games under .500 after losing on Tuesday in Anaheim. On Tuesday Denard Span had two hits and Ryan Doumit had a hit as the Twins didn’t score and had just three hits in all. On the mound Francisco Liriano allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out five over 5.1 innings of work for his fourth loss of the year. On Wednesday Minnesota starts Liam Hendricks who hasn’t won this year. For the season Hendricks has allowed 21 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out eight over 15.2 innings of work for a 6.89 ERA.
Los Angeles is 3-6 in their last nine games overall, 0-9 in game three of a series, and 15-6 in Weaver’s last 21 starts. Minnesota is 4-9 in game three of a series, 14-46 in their last 60 games overall, and 2-5 in Hendrick’s last seven starts. Los Angeles is 5-0 in Weaver’s last five starts against Minnesota.
The Angels are a big favorite here for a reason and while winning three in a row isn’t common for them these days they do it in this very favorable spot.
