Baltimore Orioles vs. Texas Rangers
The Baltimore Orioles and the Texas Rangers meet for game two of their series among division leaders at Camden Yards. The Rangers are -135 favorites over the Orioles with an over/under run total set at 8.5.
The Baltimore Orioles have gotten off to a string start this year leading the A.L. East but they looked very much over matched in game one against the Rangers. Robert Andino hit a solo home run, Wilson Betemit had a two run, and J.J. Hardy had three hits as the Orioles had six hits and three runs total on the night. On the mound Brian Matusz got rocked allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs while striking out five over five innings to take his fourth loss of the season. For game two of the series Baltimore starts Jake Arrieta who own last time out to end a personal two game losing streak. For the season Arrieta has allowed 29 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 33 over 38.1 innings of work for a 3.52 ERA.
The Texas Rangers have had their share of struggles over their recent road trip but they showed no signs of them taking out the heavy lumber on Monday. Brandon Snyder had three hits including a home run and he drove in six runs, Michael Young had two hits including a home run with three RBI’s, and Josh Hamilton had a two run home run as the Rangers scored 14 runs on 19 hits in the beat down. On the mound matt Harrison had six hits and three earned runs while striking out three over seven innings for his fourth win. For Tuesday’s rematch Texas starts Neftali Feliz who is 1-1 in his first year in the starting rotation. For the season Feliz has allowed 17 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 18 over 26 innings of work for a 3.81 ERA.
Baltimore is 5-1 in their last six games overall, 5-2 in their last seven home games, and 1-4 in Arrieta’s last five home starts. Texas is 43-19 in their last 62 games overall, 2-4 in their last six road games, and 16-5 in game two of a series. Texas is 6-0 in the last six meetings of these two.
While Texas put a thumping on Baltimore on Monday I have the Orioles bouncing back here and getting the win.
