Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals

The top two teams in the National League East face off on Friday for game one of their series as the Atlanta Braves host the Washington Nationals.  The Braves are -150 favorites over the Nationals with an over/under run total set at 7.

The Atlanta Braves are coming off of a rough road trip and now it’s time for them to see if they are just coming off of a bad match up for them against the Reds or if there are bigger problems. The Braves are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 10-7 at home this year, and they are a game behind Washington and in second place in the N.L. East. As a team the Braves are hitting .260 with Martin Prado hitting .325, Michael Bourn hitting .315, and Dan Uggla hitting .259. As a team the Braves pitching staff has an ERA of 3.96 with the starters at 4.14 and the bullpen at 3.59. For game one against the Nationals Atlanta starts Tim Hudson who has won his last two starts. For the season Hudson has allowed 30 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 19 over 32.2 innings of work for a 3.03 ERA.

The Washington Nationals had the day off on Thursday and will be well rested for their trip to Atlanta. The Nationals are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 11-10 on the road this season, and they lead the N.L. East and have for most of the season. As a team the nationals are hitting .243 with Adam LaRoche hitting .297, Ian Desmond hitting .275, and Danny Espinosa hitting .221. as a team the Nationals pitching staff has an ERA of 2.92 with the starters at 2.71 and the bullpen at 3.36. For game one against the Braves Washington starts Ross Detwiler who has lost his last two decisions. For the season Detwiler has allowed 42 hits and 18 runs while striking out 31 over 44.1 innings of work for a 3.65 ERA.

Atlanta is 4-0 in their last four home games against a team with a winning record, 1-4 in their last five games as a favorite, and 7-1 in Hudson’s last eight home starts.  Washington is 4-1 in their last fove game one of a series, 5-2 in their last seven road games, and 3-12 in Detwiler’s last 15 starts as a road underdog. Washington is 2-5 in their last seven games in Washington.

I don’t love the Braves in this spot but I will take them here in what is just a lean.
