Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles face off in game one of their weekend series in Toronto on Friday. The Blue Jays are -170 favorites over the Orioles with an over/under run total set at 8.5.
The Toronto Blue Jays have gotten off to a solid start and if it weren’t for blown saves they would be all alone in first place in the American League East. The Blue Jays are hitting just .202 as a team and have outscored their opponents 29-20 and enter this one on a two game winning sterak. Kelly Johnson hitting .292, Edwin Encarnacion hitting .269, Adam Lind hitting .250, and Jose Bautista starting out at just .174 with one home run. For game one against Baltimore Toronto starts Brandon Morrow who had a no decision in his first start this year. At Cleveland Morrow allowed just one hit and two runs, none of them earned while striking out three over seven innings.
The Baltimore Orioles have lost their last three games and hit the road for the first time this year but they are off to a 3-3 start. The Orioles have outscored their opponents 25-22 and as a team they are hitting .258. Matt Wieters is hitting .364 with two home runs, Robert Andino is hitting .318, Adam Jones is hitting .292, and Nick Markakis is hitting .238. For game one at the Rogers Centre Baltimore starts Tommy Hunter who was a winner in his first start of the year. Against Minnesota Hunter allowed six hits and two runs, none of them earned while striking out three over seven innings of work.
Toronto is 5-2 in their last seven games overall, 9-4 in their last 13 home games against a right handed starter, and 4-0 in Morrow’s last four starts. Baltimore is 5-1 in their last six game one of a series, 7-2 in their last nine games following a loss, and 4-0 in Hunter’s last four starts. Baltimore is 21-47 in the last 68 meetings of these two.
Toronto is an overwhelming favorite here and I like them to win as well but at these odds it isn’t a great play.
