Texas Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Rays
The Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays meet for game two of their series in Arlington. The Rangers are -165 favorites over the Rays with an over/under run total set at 9.
The Texas Rangers are burying the competition early in the A.L. West but they took a step back on Friday as they fell to the Rays in Game one of their series. Josh Hamilton hit a home run and had three RBI’s, David Murphy had two hits including a home run, and Ian Kinsler had two hits as the Rangers scored four times on 13 hits. On the mound matt Harrison allowed 14 hits and six earned runs while striking out three over five innings of work for his first loss of the year. On Saturday Texas looks to bounce back as they start Colby Lewis who hasn’t taken a loss as of yet this year. For the season Lewis has allowed 27 hits and six earned runs while striking out 24 over 26.2 innings of work for a 2.02 ERA.
The Tampa Bay Rays just kept hammering away at the ball on Friday and eventually it led to runs which led to a win. Evan Longoria had two hits including a three run home run for four RBI’s total, Luke Scott hit a home run, and B.J. Upton had three hits as the Rays scored eight runs on 16 hits. On the mound James Shields got his fourth win against no losses as he allowed 11 hits and four earned runs while striking out eight over six innings. For Saturday’s game Tampa Bay starts Jeff Niemann who came up big in his last start where he earned his first win of the year. For the season Niemann has allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 16 over 15.1 innings of work for a 4.11 ERA.
Texas is 14-2 in game two of a series, 40-16 as a home favorite, and 5-2 in Lewis’ last seven starts against the A.L. East. Tampa Bay is 6-0 in their last six games overall, 7-1 in their last eight against a right handed starter, and 1-5 in Niemann’s last six starts as an underdog. Texas is 4-1 in Lewis’ last five starts against Tampa Bay.
The Rangers didn’t look too good on Friday but they should bounce back here for a win.
