Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners

The Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners meet on Monday in Texas for game one of their series in what should be an international media circus.  The Rangers are -225 favorites over the Mariners with an over/under run total set at 9.

The Texas Rangers were in a dogfight with the Chicago White Sox in their season opening series but they won two of three and are a half of a game back in the A. L. West. The Rangers outscored the White Sox 11-6 over the three games with all of those games coming at home. David Murphy is hitting .556 with a home run, Josh Hamilton is hitting .455 with a home run, Ian Kinsler is hitting .364 with a homer, and Michael Young is hitting .250. For Monday’s game Texas gives the start to Yu Davrvish who makes his first regular season start in the United States. Darvish was a star in Japan and arguably the best player as he had several seasons with an ERA less than two. The Rnagers opened up the vault to get Darvish and the expectations of the youngster are extremely high and there will be media from all over the world present to cover this event.

After returning to the states where they split two games with the Oakland Athletics the Seattle Mariners went to Oakland and won two in a row to take an early lead in the A.L. West. Seattle is now 3-1 with all four games being on the road and they have outscored their opponents 19-15. Chone Figgins is hitting .412, Ichiro Suzuki is hitting .353, Dustin Ackley is hitting .316 with a home run, and Michael Saunders is hitting .308 with a home run. For Monday’s game Seattle starts Hector Noesi who spent last season with the Yankees where he appeared in 30 games starting two and he had a 4.47 ERA allowing 63 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 45 in 56.1 innings of work. Seattle isn’t supposed to be a contender this season but they will have this series to distance themselves further from the pack.

Texas is 16-5 in their last 21 Monday games, 26-10 in their last 36 games overall, and 4-1 as a favorite of -201 or more. Seattle is 6-1 in their last seven game one of a series, 6-14 in their last 20 against the A.L. West, and 19-46 in their last 65 games as a road underdog. Seattle is 20-41 in the last 61 meetings of these two.

All of the pressure is on Texas here but they should have what it takes to get it done. Darvish is used to being the center of attention and from what I have seen of him he is well worth the hype.
