San Antonio Spurs vs. New Orleans Hornets
The San Antonio Spurs return home to face Eric Gordon and the New Orleans Hornets tonight. The Spurs are -11.5 point favorites over the Hornets with an over/under point total set at 193.
Head to head, the Hornets are 2-9 ATS in the last 11 meetings in San Antonio, while the underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the home team is 18-6 ATS in the last 24 meetings. The Spurs are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400, 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite of 11.0 or greater and 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 home games. The Hornets on the other hand are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog of 11.0 or greater, 12-4 ATS in their last 16 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
Read the paragraph above and you will see the Spurs have been pretty flawless in most of their against the spread stats, however the Hornets have been right there with them. From a pure basketball point, can’t you really fault anything San Antonio has done this season. After going 8-1 on their annual rodeo road trip, which was the most wins in NBA history on a road trip, the Spurs are at it again as they are currently riding a nine game winning streak. New Orleans on the other hand is coming off a win against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night in Eric Gordon’s first game back from injury. It was a rare home win for the Hornets who have been much better on the road this season than in the Big Easy.
I really do want to take New Orleans here and I have had great success riding them on the road this season, but how can you go past the Spurs the way they have been playing? San Antonio have beaten Indiana, Philadelphia, Dallas, Minnesota, Orlando and Washington in their last six home games by an average of 14 points per game. All of those bar Washington and Minnesota are playoff teams by the way.
My play for this game will be the under though. I believe that the Spurs defense will limit the Hornets scoring ability.
