Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets

The Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets close out their three games series as they meet on Sunday in Philadelphia.  The Phillies are -170 favorites over the Mets with an over/under run total set 7.

The Philadelphia Phillies are off to a slow start this season and the favorites to win the N.L. East are three and a half games back and they haven’t even played their 10th game of the year. On Saturday the Phillies bats were silent once again as they were shut out and had just six hits on the day. Shane Victorino, Placido Polanco, and Jimmy Rollins all had hits but the Phillies didn’t score and they have scored just two runs in this series. On the mound Vance Worley allowed eight hits and four runs and struck out five over six innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game Philadelphia starts Cole Hamels who doesn’t have a history of success against the Mets. In Hamels first start this year he allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out nine over 5.1 innings to take the loss.

The expectations were low for the New York Mets this season but thus far they have far exceeded them and are just a half of a game out of the lead in the N.L. East. On Saturday Jon Niese allowed five hits and struck out five over 6.2 innings of work without allowing a run to get his second win of the year. David Wright hit a home run and had three hits, Lucas Duda homed and had two hits, and Ruben Tejada added two hits as the Mets scored five runs on 10 hits. For Sunday’s game New York starts Mike Pelfrey who had a no decision in his first start this year. In his first outing Pelfrey allowed 10 hits and three runs while striking out eight over 5.2 innings of work.

Philadelphia is 3-11 in their last 14 home games, 1-7 in their last eight games against a right handed starter, and 1-4 in Hamels last five starts. New York is 7-2 in their last nine games overall, 6-1 in their last seven games as an underdog, and 7-18 in Pelfrey’s last 25 road starts. Philadelphia is 1-7 in Hamels last eight starts against New York.

The total in this one is set at seven and even that low I have this one coming in under.
