Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets

Two National League East rivals collide on Friday as the Philadelphia Phillies host the New York Mets.  The Phillies are -185 favorites over the Mets with an over/under run total set at 7.

The Philadelphia Phillies got off to a slow start as the bats haven’t exactly been clicking but they have won their last two games in a row and enter this series at .500 and a game and a half back in the division. As a team the Phillies are hitting .237 with Hunter Pence hitting .391, Carlos Ruiz is hitting .375, Shane Victorino is hitting .333, and Jimmy Rollins is hitting .280. For game one against the Mets Philadelphia starts Cliff Lee who had a no decision in his first start in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. Lee pitched well in his only appearance this year as he allowed two hits and a run striking out four over six innings of work.

The New York Mets have gotten off to a decent start to the year but after sweeping Atlanta and winning the first game of their series against Washington they lost their last two to the Nationals. As a team the Mets are hitting .251 with Josh Thole hitting .429, Ruben Tejada is hitting .333, and Daniel Murphy is hitting .320. For Friday’s game New York sends R. A. Dickey to the mound after he got a win in his first outing of the year. In his first start of the year Dickey allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out three over six innings of work.

Philadelphia is 6-1 in their last seven against the N.L. East, 3-9 in their last 12 home games, and 11-4 in Lee’s last 15 home starts. New York is 4-1 in their last five games following an off day, 7-3 in their lst 10 against the N.L. East, and 5-2 in Dickey’s last seven starts. New York is 2-6 in their last eight games in Philadelphia.

I don’t see a lot of runs coming in this one and for my pick I am going with the under.

Under 7
