The New York Yankees took game one of their series on Friday but on Saturday they fell behind early and were never able to catch all the way up. Nick Swisher hit two solo home runs, Curtis Granderson hit a home run and had two hits, And Alex Rodriguez had a hit as the Yankees had six hits and scored five runs. On the mound Freddy Garcia was under attack from the outset as he allowed five hits and six earned runs lasting just 1.2 innings taking his second loss of the year. For the season Sabathia has allowed 27 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 30 over 27.1 innings of work for a 5.27 ERA.
The Detroit Tigers haven’t been playing their best baseball of late but on Saturday they jumped all over the New York Yankees. Andy Dirks hit a three run home run, Miguel Cabrera hit a home run had two hits and three RBI’s, and Austin Jackson had a hit and scored two runs as the Tigers scored seven runs on seven hits. On the mound Drew Smyly had it all working allowing just two hits and a run while striking out seven to get his first win of the season. Detroit is 5-1 in their last six road games, 7-2 in their last nine games against the against the A.L. East, and 1-4 in Scherzer’s last five starts as an underdog. New York has won their last four against the Tigers that Sabathia has started.
The Yankees are a huge favorite here and for good reason as it should be batting practice unless Scherzer all of the sudden gets it together but I don’t like the chances of that happening.
