Los Angeles Clippers vs. Atlanta Hawks

Two playoff bound teams collide tonight as the Los Angeles Clippers travel to Atlanta to play the Hawks.  The Hawks are -2 point favorites over the Clippers with an over/under point total set at 192.

Head to head, the Clippers are 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Atlanta, while the road team is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings. The Hawks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite of 0.5-4.5, but just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Clippers on the other hand are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600, but just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference.

As good as the Clippers have been recently, the Hawks haven’t been far behind them, with seven wins coming in their last 10 games, compared to eight for Los Angeles. In fact, these two teams are similar in many more ways than won. One sits in the fourth position in the West, while the other occupies the fifth spot in the East. Both the Hawks and Clippers have nearly identical home and road records, while they both have a key long term injury (Al Horford and Chauncey Billups). As far as head to head goes, Atlanta have Los Angeles covered as they have won seven of the past 10 meetings between the two, however the Clippers have only gotten good recently as they won the only meeting between the two this season 96-82 in Los Angeles.

If Caron Butler and Nick Young were to indeed miss tonights game through injury, the advantage would clearly have to go to the Hawks. However, as it stands, I’m going with the away team and the points in this one. Atlanta are pretty much locked into the fifth position out West, while the Clippers could catch the Lakers with a win here, so motivation should be high for Chris Paul and company. I do like the Hawks as a regular season team, however they can still lay a huge egg every now and again. That may or may not happen here, but I feel pretty comfortable taking any points and I can get.
