Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres

The Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres meet on Wednesday for game three of their series at Coors Field.   The Rockies are -145 favorites over the Padres with an over/under run total set at 9.5.

The Colorado Rockies came within a game of leveling their overall record and they evened up their home record as they took game two of their series against the Padres on Tuesday. Dexter Fowler hit a two run hime run, Michael Cuddyer had two hits, and Wilin Rosario had a hit and two RBI’s as the Rockies scored five runs on seven hits. 49 year old Jamie Moyer became the oldest Major League pitcher to record a win as he allowed six hits and two runs over seven innings and Rafael Betancourt earned his third save. For Wednesday’s game Colorado starts Juan Nicasio who is still looking for his first win of the year. Thus far this season Nicasio has allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs while striking out seven over 9.2 innings of work for a 6.52 ERA.

The San Diego Padres fought the good fight and had the go ahead run at the plate when the game ended on Tuesday but couldn’t get it done. Nick Hundley hit a home run, Chris Denorfia had four hits, and Jesus Guzman had a hit and scored a run as the Padres scored three times on nine hits. Starter Anthony Bass allowed four hits and three runs while striking out seven over 5.0 innings of work to take the loss as Joe Thatcher allowed two more runs out of the bullpen. For Wednesday’s game San Diego starts Clayton Richard who has a win and a no decision in his two starts this year. For the season Richard has allowed eight hits and 10 runs while striking out seven over 13 innings of work for a 2.77 ERA.

Colorado is 8-17 in their last 25 games overall, 4-11 in their last 15 home games, and 1-4 in Nicasio’s last five starts. San Diego is 4-2 in their last six road games against a right handed starter, 1-5 in their last six games overall, and 3-9 in Richard’s last 12 starts as an underdog. San Diego is 5-1 in the last six meetings of these two.

The total is set at 9.5 and that is a little too high for this one so my pick is on the under.
