Cleveland Indians vs. Kansas City Royals

The Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals meet on Thursday in Cleveland to close out their weekday series.  The Indians are -135 favorites over the Royals with an over/under run total set at 9.

It had to happen to someone and it happened to the Cleveland Indians as they were the ones who the Royals finally beat to end their losing streak. On Wednesday Asdrubal Cabrera, Travis Hafner, and Carlos Santana all had hits as the Indians scored twice on five hits. On the mound Ubaldo Jimenez allowed six hits and four runs while striking out two to take his first loss of the season. For Thursday’s series finale Cleveland starts Josh Tomlin who is 1-1 in two starts this year. For the season Tomlin has allowed 18 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 14 over 16.2 innings of work for a 4.86 ERA.

Going into Wednesday’s game at Cleveland the Kansas City Royals had lost 12 games in a row but they put an end to the losing with a win. Billy Butler had two home runs, Eric Hosmer hit a home run and had two hits, and Alex Gordon had a home run and three hits and the Royals had 11 hits and scored eight runs. On the mound Luke Hochevar allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out four over 6.1 innings to get the win as the bullpen allowed just one hit the rest of the way. For Thursday’s game Kansas City looks to make it two in a row as they start Luis Medoza who has yet to win this season. For the year Mendoza has allowed 24 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out three over 13 innings for a 6.92 ERA.

Cleveland is 8-3 in their last 11 games overall, 2-6 in their last eight home games, and 1-4 in Tomlin’s last five starts. Kansas City is 8-19 in their last 27 games overall, 1-9 in their last 10 against the A.L. Central, and 1-7 in their last eight games against a team with a winning record. Kansas City is 4-10 in their last 14 games in Cleveland.

It’s an early start but don’t expect an early finish as we have a ton of runs and the over is the play.
